While this is my sixth commission for client Brendan Hood, it’s the first time I officially labeled them for his theme of “Switcheroo Gallery” (previous jobs were over Casey Jones, Bill Marrimon, Jeremy Dale, Mike Lilly and I even did my last one over Scott again). Brendan describes his theme as such: “…with superheroes changing from their mild-mannered everyday identity to their costumed persona.
I was focusing primarily on single-pinups with a few characters (Peter Parker and Clark Kent) but have broadened my horizons to include Nightwing, Daredevil, Robin, Kid-Flash, and even mini-stories. But there’s always got to be a costume change in there. :-)”
In this pair of images we have Robin and the Joker….I had to scour way back to the beginning of my gallery and see that I’ve done Joker once (and even then I inked an existing pin-up by Kevin West, not an actual commission) and Robin NEVER. I’ve only inked Scott one time before. The first part was rough for me because I was sick with a zombie virus that kicked my ass for over a week….I struggled to simply get the lines right. But the second part came naturally (and quicker!) and, thus, I prefer it as the better of the two images. I used my usual bag’o inking tricks and finished these on 9/16 and 9/20/11, both as bluelines on 2-ply Kubert board.
