Here’s the 3rd part of this Hitoshi blueline batch. As a reminder, this assignment consists of 3 images that tie in together thematically as the Birds of Prey. This image, my 7th for Hitoshi and my 9th over Dooney, is my 4th Black Canary commission. The challenge with this job was that, besides being a vertical composition, it had no real background anywhere near rendered like the others since Michaek had not been hired to tie these 3 pieces together, like a triptych, like I was after the fact. But no problem. I added in the rooftop, the silhouette of the Gotham cityscape, the night sky & the bat signal. To the client’s wish, and in respect of Dooney, I even worked in his background shape element into the wall behind Dinah. Lastly, I came up with the idea of adding graphitti of “Birds of Prey” on the wall which further ties this piece to the bookend images thematically as seen below. I inked this job with brush, markers, Pitt brush marker, white paint drybrush, white paint spatter, some China marker (crayon texture), black ink spatter and black ink finger smudges. I finished this 11X17 commission on 8/23/2007.
