In April & May I took part in what I call “The Inkwell Tour” since I had 5 public appearances mostly one after the other and because those were the 2 months that my 1st annual Inkwell Awards event voting was active to fans & the community. First, on 4/12/2008, I had a store signing at That’s Entertainment in Worcestor, MA with my fellow ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST- QUASAR creative partners, Christos Gage & Mike Lilly. For Chris Denmead, Mike & I rendered this 9X12? illustration of Vampirella that Mike subsequently filled in the background for (and red highlights) Sorry for the blurry, digital pic. We used Pitt markers (“super fine” & “brush”), Sakura micronmarkers and Copic markers (“wide” & “sketch”). From this venue Bob Shaw asked us to do a remarque illo in his ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST HC of Quasar. After Mike drew it I inked the bust shot on the 7.5X11 end page with markers, Pitt brush marker, brush, drybrush and a gold metallic marker. Mike also sketched Quasar on a Secret Invasion sketch cover variant comic for the Inkwell Awards auction (to raise revenue for expenses) that day and I inked it at home on 4/16 just before the NYCC on 4/18-20/2008. Observation: these covers are NOT the greatest surface to ink on. At NYCC, Joe Sinnott’s son Mark asked me to do something on a blank sketch card so I did a Black Panther. After NYCC I was off to the Pittsburgh Comicon on April 25-27, 2008 where I inked a Herb Trimpe Godzilla sketch, my 2nd commission over his pencil work, in a client’s (Bill Rose) sketch book (9X12?). I used my Pitt brush marker, micronmarkers, Copic wide marker and black ink finger smudges. Lastly, just after my Free Comic Book Day signing on May 3, 2008 at the Fitchberg, MA That’s Entertainment store, I inked Sal’s Black Panther pencil art on another copy of Secret Invasion on May 9 using Pitt brush marker, microns and brush. The last stop on my tour will be the Granite State Con in Manchester, NH coming up on May 18 and if there’s anything rendered there I will add it as an entry to this commissions gallery.
