This is my 62nd commish for Damon but it’s only my second Cage Match-themed job from his Comic Art Fans (CAF) gallery.
This time Luke Cage, from his days as Powerman, is up against Dontrell “Cockroach” Hamilton and his 6-barreled shot gun named ‘Josh’, characters I was honored to handle in ink on Black Panther # 16 & 17 from 2000. The real thrill for me, though, was that one of the artists from the original Hamilton appearances (Powerman # 28, 30, 31) was penciling the commission, Arvell Jones from issue 30. This was my first time with him and it was interesting as I found his work to be somewhat similar to one of his Marvel Comics peers of that time, Ron Wilson (who I’ve inked on commissions a couple of times). All the info was there but it was a bit sketchy in spots so I had to tighten it up and polish it a bit. I inked it on the 11X17 2-3-ply board with brush, markers, Pitt brush marker, drybrush, and a piece of sponge. It was completed on December 15, 2010.
