Yes, I know that my website has been down for two weeks. There were problems with my new server after trying to migrate from my old server. I just added in to the gallery section the latest show commissions I completed this summer (see newsflash updates above). Hopefully we're all good here now. Next week is the Twin Tiers Comic Con (August 13-14) in Elmira, NY and following that the Terrificon (August 19-21) in Uncasville, CT., my last two shows for 2016.    Ms. Inkwell Haily Skaza-Gagne and I hope to see you there!  Oh, and soon I have very exciting news to share here. For reelz!

We Made the Llst of Marvel's TOP TEN BLACK PANTHER Stories! Print E-mail
Written by Bob Almond

The article was posted on Bleeding Cool and the video countdown resides there and on YouTube from July 15.  My comments on Facebook were:

"(We're proud) to have worked on one story on this Marvel TOP TEN BLACK PANTHER STORIES list with #5 "Killmonger's Rage" which was our (Priest/Sal Velluto/Almond) longest epic at like a dozen chapters, but I'm surprised not to see "Sturm Und Drang: A Story of Love & War" (BP#26-29) make the list as many felt that that was opus of our run. It included some of the major monarchs of the Marvel Universe, T'Challa's nemesis Klaw, and it was us that reunited Ororo/Storm back with T'Challa after Claremont introduced them as kids in MTU#100 (which possibly should also be included) decades earlier and influenced Hudlin to later get them hitched (on the list)."

Sal Velluto Needs Your HELP! Print E-mail
Written by Bob Almond
Monday, 18 July 2016 14:17

On May 16 friends of my oft-art partner Sal Velluto created a GoFundMe page to assist Sal with financial debt accrued from surgical/medical procedures to treat his recent cancer illness.  He is recovering but he lost work income putting him thousands in debt. Sal did not reach out for help but he is too much in need to deny it, either, so many of us have reached out to help. The cause has raised about half of the goal amount to date. If you have been a fan of his work and can help him with any amount, meager as it may be, it'll add up and go a long way. As an Inkwell Awards ambassador since 2010 my non-profit has helped him a bit from our summer convention tour earnings (50% of sold merchandise and monetary donations). Thanks kindly for your consideration.

2016: it's been a year of announced deaths in record levels.  My health's been better.  Lots of drama. Time has seemingly sped up leaving me no time to get anything done.  Not a fan.

I am still doing simultaneous work for Kingstone Media and Ravesnake Comics but I'm in-between things at the moment.  I did finally wrap up all old commissions for a regular client...clean slate!  And it feels GREAT! I hope to be able to add three new entries to my commission gallery before long.

I visited the Kubert School for the 1st time to represent the Inkwell Awards w/ Ms. Inkwell and to present the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship Fund to a talented student in need, Matthew Neumann. I loved it!  Also for the Inkwells, I am trying to prepare for the awards ceremony at Heroes Con and I have so much to do! And that clock is mocking me!

My pal Sal Velluto recently had cancer surgery and mutual chum Mike Lovins has created a fundraiser to help Sal and his family with paying bills from his inability to work. You can find out more here!  If you have been entertained over the years by Sal's work please consider helping him get back on his feet and produce more magic. I don't want to collect sick friends.

I cancelled plans for signing on Free Comic Book Day due to the recent craziness but I'll be attending Albany Con May 5 and and Heroes Con June 17-19.  I hope to see any of you there or the shows that follow them (see Public Appearances above). I'll be the frazzled and tired looking guy staring at my watch.  Is it just me?!

My Present Workload, pt. 2 Print E-mail

Since my last update (in part 1) about inking Richard Bonk for two short stories I have been reunited with my oft-partner Sal Velluto on a story at Kingstone Media.  This is our first collaboration (outside of commissions) in 6 years since some Phantom 'ghost' (uncredited) inkwork for Egmont Comics. After that I inked a few pages over Paul Abrams who I've never inked before except on a commission and then I was reunited with Kyle Hotz for nine pages to a story to help out inker Jason Moore. (Much thanks to Enrique (Zeke) Savory Jr. for his ink assistance on these jobs.)  Kyle and I last worked together on Marvel's Heroes for Hire for 3 issues and a Spider-Island spin-off issue five years ago. There are a few more pages from Kyle for another story coming my way in a few days. I hope to catch up on old commission work this week while in-between gigs.

Speaking of those 'non-mainstream assignments', since my last update below ("Two Bob Bits") for those 'fans of faith' who may be interested:  I have inked two stories so far for Kingstone Comics for their 'Kingstone Bible', both over the pencils of Richard Bonk- 'Amos' and 'Habakkuk'. And I will be getting more work coming up over some SURPRISE pencil artists. I'm also doing a short 'Jittery Tales' story for my former boss at Ravesnake Comics. Between these gigs, Inkwell Awards obligations and the holidays, I'm glad I don't have any shows to attend for the immediate future! So as the note says in my newsflash above, sorry, my commissions list is closed. But 2016 is looking brighter;-)
