It was time for the Charlotte Heroes Con again so Craig and I agreed to
collaborate on an image for the theme of the '03 program book and,
understandably, this year it was the Hulk. Craig decided to render him in a retro
Kirby style and after flipping through early Hulk issues he generally based this
one @ HULK # 4 & 5, vol.1. At the last minute he added in Betty, Rick and Ross
to the charging Hulk pose which added to the nostalgic elements; it had coincid-
entally been one of my suggestions to stick some friends or foes into the image
during our initial discussion. I then finished the art using mostly brush, a little bit
of marker and a Hunt 102 quill for the flash lines. I played up the Kirby stuff
although it probably didn't quite match his style from '63 since Jack didn't use
much in the area of his squiggly lines in the early silver-age but he would in a
few more years to follow. Hulk was finished 5/31/03. Puny humans beware!
UPDATE: 4/1/04- I've been slowly learning how to handle digital coloring with
Photoshop on my computer (with losta help from Craig). This Hulk to the left is
my first newbie effort and I will slowly add more color images to this gallery.
