(above) Mike Grell's pencils
The Crimson Avenger was my 23rd job for Damon and my first time over Mike Grell. I've inked quite a few artists heavily inspired by Neal Adams but Grell was a challenge since he used very little blacks and a whole lot of sweeping, gestural lines. Once I jumped in and got the swing of things I had a ball and thought it came out pretty good for my first crack at Mike. The 11 X 17 commission was inked with brush, marker, Pitt brushmarker, and the shadow lines done with a black litho crayon. It was completed by 10/30/04.
